Democracy is about sharing information, discussing ideas, analysing, debating, compromising and making collective decisions.  This blog aims to promote the notions of democracy, highlight where it is being undermined or suppressed and analyse ways that it can be promoted.

It is the proposal of this writer and this blog that despite hundreds of years of “improvements to representative democracy” in Britain, the goals of those who debated in Putney in 1647 have still not been realised or have become an ignored part of our democratic heritage.  Today, with the ever increasing inequality of our society, it is necessary to remind the people of those words debated at Putney: “all degrees of men should be levelled, and an equality established”.
